Pregnancy Toxaemia or Hypocalcaemia?

Pregnancy Toxaemia has similar symptoms to Hypocalcaemia and is often mistaken for the disease.  Hypocalcaemia is caused by low calcium levels and is easily treated often resulting in rapid recovery.  Pregnancy toxaemia is caused by low levels of glucose in the blood and treatment is seldom successful.  The level of glucose in the blood is directly related to the amount and quality of the feed being digested.  The main focus should be on prevention and ensuring the ewes have adequate nutrition and are not unduly stressed.
